“Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.” Mark 6:31
Oddly enough, I struggle with the concept of rest.
I’m a “doer” and resting makes me feel like I am wasting precious “do” time (I will refrain from childish poop remarks…)
That is EXACTLY what satan wants us to believe. He knows we are way more ineffective when we are exhausted. He knows we make horrible choices when we are running on empty.
There are several verses in the Bible where God makes reference to rest (ummmm, He even rested on the 7th day!).
“He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters” Psalm 23:2
Did you see it?
That little, seemingly insignificant word…MAKES.
Here is how God MADE me rest, it was through a year of irregular heart palpitations.
At first, they were just annoying, but then it got to the point where I couldn’t ignore them anymore. They had gotten so intense that I would be on the verge of passing out at times during the day.
After many heart specialists and different tests coming up with the same conclusion – “We don’t know why it’s happening. You are 100% healthy.” – the one variable that I had control over but had a hard time facing was the fact that I was EXHAUSTED.
I finally allowed myself to rest. I made some major life changes in my work schedule so that I could get an additional 6 hours of sleep a week and it has made all the difference in the world.
Was it hard to make a change? YES. Did my change affect other people and my income at the time? YES.
Did my heart palpitations go away? YES…and I am way more productive at work and with my family.
Please take a moment and reflect on how God has chosen to MAKE you rest and share your story below so others may recognize the need in themselves.
